Your Food is Screwed
I’m sure you’ve heard of words like organic, GMO, pesticide, and MSG. You may or may not believe that your diet is compromised. You might even feel fed up with hearing about it and simply don’t care. That’s the worst mistake you can make.
Humans have been eating food since the fruit pluck from the tree of knowledge. Ironically we seem to know less and less about what we eat. While you may not get kicked out of a paradise for eating any particular food, your choices will affect your quality of life.
A little more than 10 years ago, professors in Texas reported “reliable declines” in the nutrients in our food supply. We are simply growing more than our soil can provide. Some of these drops have exceeded 30% of the original content- and that’s fresh food like fruits and vegetables! After all the process our food goes through, what amount of nutrients are even left.
Food companies won’t tell you this but most of the vitamins and minerals you see on the Nutrition Facts are synthetic! Yes, folks, the food you are eating has almost no natural nutrients by the time it eats your table. If it comes in a box or bag, its main contents tend to be highly chemical- hard starch, sugar variations, and preservatives.
Think about it. Put a carrot you grow outside on the ground. Dump a can of carrots next to it. See which one lasts longer. But also notice what the bugs go for first- the canned food! It’s sweet, it smells good, it’s soft and chewy. All the things a carrot shouldn’t be!
To feed our food supply needs and the massive waste we create, alterations to food production were made. There’s no law to tell you what those alterations are. Most of us are not chemists so we can’t even read the Nutrition Facts.
The system is broken. What can you do? I’m not asking you to go all hippie on us and move out to the wilderness but do a few smart things. Shop organic when possible and affordable. Shop local for your fruit and vegetables. Even if they use some pesticides, it’s probably far less than the large farming conglomorates. Avoid frozen, microwaved foods. Limit or eliminate sugary drinks. Drink more water and take supplements. I’m not asking you to change your life, just change your food supply. I guarantee you will feel better, God bless you!
